BOSTON – Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) joined Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito to recognize Aubrey Leary, a graduating senior from Doherty Memorial High School, on being selected by Keolis Commuter Services for a $1,000 college scholarship.
Keolis, the transportation company contracted to maintain the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) commuter rail system, offered scholarships to high school graduates from five cities in the Commonwealth served by the MBTA commuter rail. Aubrey was one of twenty-five students selected for this year’s scholarship opportunity.
“I extend my most sincere congratulations to Aubrey on receiving this scholarship,” said Sen. Moore. “Her hard work and dedication during her time at Doherty High have led to this achievement. I wish Aubrey the best of luck as she pursues undergraduate studies at Fordham University.”
“I want to thank Keolis for their generosity and congratulate the five winners of this scholarship from the Worcester Public Schools,” said Mayor Petty. “All of these students are going on to do great things and I want to thank Keolis for helping them move forward.”
In addition to Aubrey, four other students from the City of Worcester were also selected to receive $1,000 scholarships including Umme Fnu from South High Community School, John Cullen from Worcester Technical High School, Justyn Aguila from North High School and David Howard from Burncoat High School.
Scholarship recipients were chosen through recommendations from local school and community scholarship award committees. In order to be eligible, the students must have been accepted by an accredited two or four year college, or an accredited vocational training school. Each winner received $1,000 to be used for their post-secondary education or training.
