Moore-Sponsored Amendment Fosters Potential for Area Learning Institution
BOSTON – Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) successfully advocated for an amendment to an omnibus economic development bond bill to support infrastructure improvements for a higher education institution within the Blackstone Valley. The $300,000 provision was unanimously adopted as part of the final bill approved by the Senate.
Senator Moore, who has strongly advocated for expanded learning opportunities in the region, lauded the adoption of the amendment as a step forward toward an affordable, accessible education option for students in the Blackstone Valley. The proposed institution would have a focus on advanced manufacturing and other high-demand fields.
“The establishment of an area higher education institution would be a boost to the local economy and provide graduates with the skills necessary to succeed in their professional careers,” said Senator Moore. “I stand with community leaders, employers and students who are seeking to bring this type of local opportunity to fruition.”
The legislation will now go before a Conference Committee comprised of six legislators to resolve differences between versions of the bill passed by the Senate and House of Representatives.
