BOSTON – Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) announced that the Senate restored $30K to the Fiscal Year 2018 budget for weed control efforts at Lake Singletary located in in the towns of Millbury and Sutton. The funds had been part of $320.6M vetoed by Governor Baker earlier this year.
“Many of our neighbors in Millbury and the surrounding area take advantage of the recreational opportunities at Lake Singletary,” said Senator Moore. “This funding will support the important work being carried out by the volunteer Lake Watershed Association, and help to ensure that the body of water continues to be enjoyed by visitors.”
“The funds will help preserve the beauty of the lake and continue to maintain it as a natural resource for the region,” said Senator Ryan C. Fattman (R-Webster) who represents the Town of Sutton.
The restoration of this funding marks the second round of budget veto overrides undertaken by the Senate. The Chamber already restored $24.9M last month along with the House of Representatives. Another Moore-sponsored budget item restored was $50K to support the Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Veto overrides require a two-thirds vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. To view all of the Governor’s 169 line-item vetoes and legislative overrides, please visit the Legislature’s website by clicking below.
