Senator takes helm of Higher Education, Municipal Committees
BOSTON – Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) announced that he has been re-appointed to serve as the Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Higher Education. Senate President Stanley C. Rosenberg (D-Amherst) has also selected Moore for the top Senate post on the Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government.
“It is great honor to lead both of these legislative committees,” said Senator Moore. “I appreciate the Senate President’s confidence in my efforts to improve higher education and I look forward to applying my knowledge as a former selectman to work on issues that impact local governments across our Commonwealth.”
The Joint Committee on Higher Education Committee reviews legislation that pertains to the network of public and private colleges and universities in the state. Bills that fall under the Committee’s purview range from college tuition and student loans to campus sexual violence. The Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government considers local home rule petitions, regional planning, zoning, and other matters related to counties and regional government.
Armed with the experience of being a former law enforcement officer, Senator Moore has also retained his role as Senate Vice-Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security. He was also appointed to serve as a member of four other committees including Senate Ways and Means, Senate Post Audit and Oversight, Senate Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets, and the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight.
