UNCASVILLE, CT – Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) traveled to Connecticut this week to attend the Council of State Governments’ Eastern Regional Conference. The regional policy forum was hosted by the Connecticut General Assembly and sponsored by the Council of State Governments.
Held annually, the conference is the largest gathering of state officials in the Eastern United States and Eastern Canada. The event brings together legislators and staff to discuss national and local policies and other areas of interest. Last year, the conference was held in Québec City.

“The opportunity to gather with legislators from across the region to discuss common issue areas is certainly very valuable,” said Senator Moore. “Being able to learn about initiatives that have proven to be effective in other states can help to inform policymaking in Massachusetts.”
The event included a wide array of speakers such as legislators, journalists, and policy experts who collaborated on a wide array of issue areas ranging from public safety to rural development.
In particular, Senator Moore attended a panel discussion on criminal justice issues. The panel was moderated by Kevin Johnson, a reporter with USA Today, and featured Governor Daniel Malloy of Connecticut. The panel discussed how strengthening communication between legislators and incarcerated individuals can help to shape criminal justice policy in states. The session also included an overview of the progression of criminal justice reform by people closest to corrections issues.
