Players tour building, meet with legislators to celebrate state championship
BOSTON – Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) and Representative Hannah E. Kane (R-Shrewsbury) welcomed more than two dozen Shrewsbury High School Boys Hockey Team players and athletic staff to the State House to celebrate the team’s recent MIAA Division 3 state hockey championship victory.
“I couldn’t be more proud of these players for their hard work and achievement,” said Senator Moore. “Both on and off the ice, these students continue to make their families and the Shrewsbury community proud. I extend my congratulations to the players, coaches and everyone involved with helping the team reach their second consecutive statewide victory.”
“I was thrilled to cheer on the Shrewsbury Varsity Boys Hockey Team during their impressive state title victory over Hanover at the TD Garden, and have the opportunity to celebrate their Division III Championship at the State House yesterday,” stated Representative Kane. “These young men are stellar examples of student-athletes and have been a tremendous source of pride and excitement for the Shrewsbury community. I offer my sincerest congratulations to the team, managers, Coaches Turnblom, Grant, and Lavner, as well as Athletic Trainer Walter Hildebrand and Athletic Director Jay Costa on another record season and second consecutive Division III State Championship!”
During their visit, the team also met with Governor Charlie Baker and Shrewsbury-native Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito. The team was treated pizza during which official citations from the Senate and House of Representatives were presented to the players, coaches and staff.
In March, the Shrewsbury High School Boys Hockey Team beat Hanover High School 2-1 to secure the state title. This marks the second straight year that the Shrewsbury team has won the top MIAA Division 3 state title.
