It’s a relief to finally be welcoming warmer weather! I thought I’d take this opportunity to suggest some activities for you and your family as the summer months approach.
Looking to spend some time in the sunshine? Consider taking a walk through the beautiful Tower Hill Botanic Garden, hiking at the Purgatory Chasm State Reservation, or catching a Worcester Bravehearts game.
If your stomach’s rumbling, check out Worcester’s Food Truck Row, open from March to October, where you can grab a quick bite from up to 10 different delicious food trucks. If you’re looking to sample Massachusetts’s freshest, finest seasonal produce, visit any of the farmer’s markets in Worcester, Grafton, or Shrewsbury.
Your kids can get in on the fun, too! Some of my favorite family-friendly activities include going to the famous Southwick's Zoo, picnicking at the historic Bancroft Tower, hiking up to Lookout Rock for an incredible view or learning how to play a fun new sport at the Maple Hill Disc Golf Course.
If art and music are more your scene, you’re in luck. Starting in June 2018, Worcester will once again host its exciting Outdoor Concert Series, featuring life bands, local crafts, and delicious homegrown food. The Worcester Windows spring exhibit will also be returning to town, featuring countless local artists in store windows during ArtWeek 2018.
I’m also pleased to announce the return of the Highland Street Foundation’s ‘Free Fun Fridays’ this coming June. Each Friday during the summer, different cultural and artistic happenings around the Commonwealth will be free and open to the public. These events are enjoyable at all ages, and allow anyone to take advantage of Central MA’s exciting opportunities.
We are lucky to live in a place that cares so much about engaging with its communities. I encourage area residents to enjoy these beautiful natural areas and enriching cultural events that are available so close to home in order to make the most out of their summer.
