Dear Friend,
By every measure, the City of Worcester is on the rise. Take a stroll downtown and you’ll find new restaurants, hotels, storefronts and other businesses taking root in this blossoming community. The recent decision by the PawSox to relocate their stadium in the ‘Woo,’ increased flight opportunities through Worcester Regional Airport and continued private investment such as the recent expansion of the iconic Table Talk Pies manufacturing facility, are all signs of an economic revival that has long-awaited the region’s second largest metropolis.
These exciting developments would not have been made possible without the hard work of City officials who, over the course of years, have been laying the groundwork to support economic growth. The Mayor, City Council, City Manager, Chamber of Commerce, local planning and regional development agencies have made great strides in attracting private investment, garnering state by-in, and assembling stakeholders needed to bring about positive change.
I’ve always been proud to be a resident of Central Massachusetts. The changes we’re witnessing take place in Worcester only further strengthen the pride I have for the City and our region as a whole. The past year marks a tremendous step forward in the City’s progress toward solidifying its place as a regional economic driver.
I’m looking forward to the many exciting changes on the horizon. One such example is this Thursday's ceremony to commemorate the start of work on the Worcester Main Street Streetscape Improvement Project. This project, like many others, marks the start of a new chapter for the City of Worcester.
Make no mistake, this revival won’t happen overnight. Like anything else, real, enduring change takes time and occurs gradually. It will take the continued commitment of leaders within both the public and private sectors, and a united Worcester community, to bring about sustainable growth and economic prosperity. With that said, I’m confident that local leaders and members of the community are committed to ensuring the Heart of the Commonwealth beats stronger and louder than ever.
Yours in service,
MICHAEL O. MOORE
