Area Legislators Attend Skillsbuild Pre-Apprentice Program Graduation

BOSTON – Members of the Worcester Legislative Delegation recently attended a graduation ceremony for trainees who participated in the six-week Skillsbuild Pre-Apprentice Program sponsored by the Massachusetts AFL-CIO at the New England Laborers’ Training Academy.

During the training program, participants are exposed to numerous classroom and experiential learning opportunities in areas such as Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standards, hazardous waste training, demolition, concrete placement, first aid and CPR.  The program also provides trainees with the opportunity to visit various union construction trades at their respective training facilitates.

“The Skillsbuild Pre-Apprentice Program has a proven history of preparing area residents with the skills they need to pursue and succeed in their future careers,” said Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury).  “I was proud to recognize these talented individuals on their successful completion of the program, and support the hard work and contributions of laborers and tradesmen throughout our Commonwealth.”

“It was a pleasure and an honor to congratulate these incredible young people on their graduation from the Skillsbuild Pre-Apprentice Program,” said Representative Daniel M. Donahue (D-Worcester).  “Skillsbuild has provided them with the abilities, skills, time management and opportunity to pursue fruitful careers in our building trades.”

“I was really happy to join these graduates on such an important day,” said Representative Mary S. Keefe (D-Worcester).  “I really valued their testimony about the importance of this program for their lives and careers. This is proof that pre-apprenticeship programs are an important step for some people to build a pathway to a strong career.”

“It is encouraging to see the opportunities these graduates have after completing the Skillsbuild Pre-Apprenticeship program,” said Representative Kate D. Campanale (R-Leicester). “Not only are they provided with comprehensive and vigorous training, they are making a commitment to improving their careers and livelihoods for themselves and their families.”
