BOSTON – Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) announced that the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development has recently awarded several business development grants to Worcester-area companies through the Workforce Training Fund General Program.
The Training Fund is an initiative designed to aid productivity and competitiveness by investing in the improvement of employee skills at businesses throughout the Commonwealth. The five Worcester-area grant recipients include:
- $72,610 was awarded to Curtis Industries of Worcester to train 42 workers with the anticipation of adding 6 additional jobs by 2019. The company is widely recognized as an innovative designer and manufacturer of compact vehicle cab enclosure systems, attachments and related accessories. The company, which started in 1968, also manufactures snow and ice control equipment for tractors and utility vehicles.
- $43,160 was awarded to Ginseng Up Corporation of Worcester to train 22 workers with the anticipation of adding 2 additional jobs by 2019. The business produces premium sodas without preservatives or high fructose corn syrup in many different flavors.
- $227,800 was awarded to Primetals Technologies USA located in Worcester to train 173 workers with the anticipation of adding 10 additional jobs by 2019. The Worcester site is part of an international network of locations. The business offers products, solutions and services for the global metals machinery industry.
- $45,800 was awarded to Slideways of Worcester to train 21 workers with the anticipation of adding 4 additional jobs by 2019. The company produces machined plastics used in mechanical wear and conveyor applications.
- $96,370 was awarded to Consolidated Fabricators of Auburn to train 55 workers with the anticipation of adding at least 1 additional job by 2019. The company manufactures complex electrical and fluid systems for gas turbines and power generators.

Workforce Training Fund General Program grants are awarded on a rolling basis throughout the year. Approximately $18.2 million was allocated in 2016 to train 13,984 workers at 185 different companies across Massachusetts.
