BOSTON – Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) and Representative Hannah E. Kane (R-Shrewsbury) announced that the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development recently awarded Central One Federal Credit Union in Shrewsbury a training grant through the Workforce Training Fund General Program.
Founded in 1952 as an occupational-based credit union for employees of the New England Electric System, Central One Federal Credit Union has grown into one of the largest federal credit unions in Central Massachusetts. The Credit Union was awarded $123,200 to train 113 workers through the Training Fund, which is an initiative designed to aid productivity and competitiveness. The Credit Union is also expected to add five additional jobs by 2020.
“Investing in the improvement of employee skills is critical to a productive workplace,” said Senator Moore. “Through training, employees can assess strengths and weaknesses, develop additional skills, and learn and grow together. I extend my congratulations to the entire team at Central One Federal Credit Union on receiving this grant.”
“Central One Federal Credit Union is a true community partner and I applaud their efforts to seek opportunities to invest in professional development for their employees,” stated Representative Kane. “The grant award from the Workforce Training Fund General Program will allow staff to learn invaluable new skills and participate in innovative workforce training efforts which will ensure further success for Central One.”
Workforce Training Fund General Program grants are awarded on a rolling basis throughout the year. Approximately $21.2 million was allocated in Fiscal Year 2018 to train 15,278 workers at 926 different companies across Massachusetts.
