Legislation authorizes conveyance of state property
BOSTON – Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) and Representative David K. Muradian, Jr. (R-Grafton) announced that a bill authorizing the Commonwealth to convey certain parcels of state land to the Town of Grafton was signed into law. The bill, filed pursuant to a Grafton Semi Annual Town Meeting vote taken in October 2017, passed both Chambers unanimously and was approved by the Governor earlier this month.
“Grafton is taking great initiative to utilize available opportunities to stimulate growth within the community that will also benefit and strengthen the region,” said Senator Moore. “This legislation compliments existing efforts to promote economic development, and to increase residential opportunities to ignite further growth.”
“This parcel of property is crucial for the Town of Grafton as I believe it can be used as a conduit to economic development,” said Representative Muradian. “I am confident that it will not only make a positive impact on the community, but also the region as a whole. I also want to thank the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance for their constant dedication to supporting the Commonwealth’s growth and economy.”
"Grafton appreciates the support of Senator Moore and Representative Muradian in transferring this parcel to the Town,” the Town of Grafton said in a statement. “The redevelopment of the former Grafton State Hospital parcel is critical to our vision of creating a village in North Grafton centered around the MBTA Commuter Rail Station. This project will not only support Tufts Veterinary School, Grafton Science Park, and Centech Park but it will also act as a catalyst for economic development in North Grafton and enable the Town to achieve housing goals.”
The newly-signed law authorizes the conveyance of state land that was once part of the former Grafton State Hospital property. The bill provides a unique opportunity for the Town to pursue commercial and residential development. Grafton’s recently-completed North Grafton Transit Village Strategic Plan has established a vision for a transit-oriented village surrounding the Grafton Commuter Rail Station.
